Why Own Firearms? Collect, Hunt, Self Defense, Preparredness
One of the things anti-gunners say is that there is simply no need for ordinary citizens to own firearms. To this, the pro-gunners have several responses. Let’s take a quick look at a few reasons why an ordinary citizen would want to own a firearm.
Collectors
Some people collect comic books, others McDonald’s toys, and some firearms! Whether it be antique firearms or more recent ones, firearm collectors are just like all the rest; they have their niches and can be fanatic about it.
Hunters
Since the beginning of time, humans have hunted to survive. With the invention of firearms, hunting went to a whole new level. No longer are we confined to a bow and arrow and to short distances.
Self Defense
The reason of having a firearm for self defense if becoming more of a reason in today’s society, with some judges telling people to do just that (link), because police are few and far between in certain areas.
Preparedness
Having a gun to be prepared for a disaster essentially means having it as a collectible that you can sell for a high price later on, or you can use it as a self defense weapon in a time of disaster when rule of law is no longer working as it should.
Because I Have A Right To!
A few people have no plans on hunting, collecting or using their firearm for self defense, but simple have a firearm because they have the constitutional right to own one. While all of the other reasons listed above are legitimate, the main point that pro-gunners state is that they simply have the right to own a firearm (and to carry)! The NRA is the pro-gunners primary means for helping America defend it’s right to own and carry firearms.
