Ruger LCP: Initial Thoughts
Had a great opportunity this last weekend to try out a few guns. A friend brought over a Ruger LCP, Taurus .38 special, Makrov and a Ruger Mark II. The one I’ve been longing to shoot for about a year now is the Ruger LCP, and I must say, I came away impressed. With it’s 6+1 capacity, the snappy little .380 definitely needs someone with a solid wrist to operate it efficiently. Rapid shooting wasn’t at all as bad as I was thinking it would be. Being able to land very quick taps on a steel target five yards away made me smile.
Ruger LCP Summary:
It’s a great little gun that can fit in your pocket. I wish the slide would lock back on an empty magazine, but it doesn’t. The 6+1 capacity is limiting, so I would definitely carry an extra magazine or two with me. It’s main purpose is close-range self defense. Perfect for summer clothing due to it’s size. While I was only able to put a few mags through it, the small size and snappiness of shooting didn’t deter me one bit from putting it on my extended wishlist! — And at a pricepoint of only $300, it seems like a great firearm.
