Remington 597 and 3-9x Scope

Firearms

I have a Remington 597 .22 caliber rifle. I’ve mounted a Red Head 3-9×50 scope on it with raised scope rings. After many rounds down range (more than it should take), I’ve managed to zero it in. However, it seems that every time I take it out of the case and use it, the zero is completely gone. I zero it again and it works just fine; but after storing it for a month or so and bringing it back out, I get the same result—it’s off again.

To begin with, I think that a 3-9x optic is just overkill for a .22 caliber rifle; At least for me. I guess I learned the hard way unfortunately. Have you had experience with a scope not working right on your rifle? If so, mention it in the comments below. Hopefully someone will be able to give you some advice.

  1. I’m thinking about getting a simple red-dot sight for the Remington 597. I also would love one for my AR, but that’s a whole other article. Anyone have any recommendations for a red-dot to use on a .22 rifle??
