Kholster to Versa Max 2 IWB Transition: Part 2

Firearms Self Defense

Milt Sparks’ Versa Max 2 (VM2) has loops for a belt, which means that you can’t wear the holster on sweatpants or other non-belted pants. VM2 belt loops are sized according to the belt width. You can always use a smaller belt, but a larger belt will be unusable. The Kholster uses clips, instead of loops, so it will attach to basically any size belt, plus sweatpants and other pants.

The VM2 cant is set at the factory and can not be adjusted. The Kholster comes slightly canted, but you can always adjust it yourself to any cant you can imagine.

The VM2 rides higher on me than I’m used to with my Kholster. There is about a half inch plus of the VM2 holster sticking above my pantline, whereas the Kholster allows for adjustment so you can set it how you like. The one downside that I can see with the VM2 ridding high is that you have to move your hand higher up your cover garment to draw your firearm, which takes more time and allows for more errors to occur.

The VM2 allows me to get a more secure grip on the firearm. This ease of deployment is mainly due to no leather being behind the grip. This allows me to get my fingers around the grip comfortably, unlike the Kholster, which has a full piece of leather behind the whole gun. With no leather being between my body and the grip, I’m glad I don’t have a rough-textured Glock frame. I’ve heard stories about people having to sand down the grip surface of their RTF Glocks so they won’t bother their skin. Luckily I researched this before I purchased my Glock and knew which holster I’d be using.

The VM2 has a piece of leather that rides along the slide of the firearm. Initially, this made me think that it could possibly get inside the trigger guard if you don’t holster properly and wind up discharging the gun. After a little testing with my unloaded Glock 19, I’ve come to the conclusion that the leather piece that sticks up above the holster is too wide to fit inside the trigger guard to cause the gun to discharge. {~sigh of relief~}
