IPDA – Divisions
Sitting at the registration table during Saturday’s match, I noticed that many people don’t know what division their handgun is classified in; so here is a brief rundown of the handgun divisions so you don’t have to ask next month:
- SSP (Stock Service Pistol) – The most common type. Examples include Glocks, Springfield XDs, and many others. Basically if you purchased a popular handgun that isn’t a 1911, and it functions similar to a Glock, it will fit into this category – assuming you haven’t modified it.
- ESP (Enhanced Service Pistol) – Usually a SSP pistol that has been modified. Tritium sights, grips, etc.
- CDP (Custom Defensive Pistol) – .45 caliber, usually 1911s fit into this category.
- ESR (Enhanced Service Revolver) – Revolvers of 9mm or larger that have been fine-tuned/enhanced.
- SSR (Stock Service Revolver) – any standard revolver of .38 caliber of larger.
Taken from the IDPA handbook (pages 17-26)
