Florida: School Board Shooting – Overview
On December 14th, a school board meeting was interrupted in Florida by Clay Duke, a 56 year old ex-con who was angry that the school board had fired his wife early this year. He had a loaded Smith & Wesson 9MM handgun and a full box of ammo on him as well. Giving the chance for everyone except the board members to leave the room, Duke spray painted on the wall and listened briefly to one of the board members who tried to negotiate with him. Firing at least 14 rounds, all of the shots missed the board members. Shortly after the firing started, an armed school security guard fired at Duke, but in the end, Duke took his own life. Everyone, except Duke, was okay, except for the trauma of the incident that will forever be with those individuals.
