Be Prepared for the Unexpected! Be Trained Ahead of Time
Situation # 1: A friend of mine’s wife wrote on her Facebook wall today that she saw someone’s shadow outside her window blinds this morning. Her husband was off at work and she was alone with a 6 year old daughter. She then made a short comment about wishing she would have taken a gun class a while back when it was offered to her. I was happy to see at least one of her friends post a reply encouraging she take the course the next time it is offered.
Situation # 2: My nephew was home with his sisters during the day. They were hanging out upstairs and heard voices downstairs talking. They knew it couldn’t have been them, since they were all together. My nephew, who was about 17 years old, took the girls to the master bedroom closet and phoned for help. He then called his father asking how to load and use the .410 shotgun they had! — Yes, you read that right…He had to call for assistance on how to load and use a .410 shotgun at the age of seventeen.
Both of these situations revolve around a simple concept: TRAINING!
I’m not talking about routine training every month or week that would make a great marksmen; I’m simply referring to a basic training course of firearms. If there’s a weapon in the house and a person of age has the possibility of being in the house by themselves, then they should be training to defend themselves with whatever they have at their disposal! Whether these situations were a failure of the husband for not training his wife, a father for not training his son; or simply a matter of the threatened people not wanting to learn; one thing is for sure… Situations like these can happen anytime, anywhere! So be prepared.
